European Draughts Team Championships: Ukraine dominates winning 5 Gold medals out of 6; the girls from Poland won in the classic.

The European Team Championships open (men’s) and women’s, Classic, Rapid and Blitz, ended in Follonica (GR) on 18th June. A great event that began with the opening ceremony on Sunday 11th June, with the greeting of the Mayor Andrea Benini and the Tourism Councilor Alessandro Ricciuti who kicked off the competition on Monday 12 with the “first move” of the tournament. The event brought the strongest players on the Continent to the Tuscan town, recognized (together with closes towns) as European Community of Sport 2023. The championships were played inside the Villaggio Mare Sì facility. The men’s and women’s National teams from Ukraine, France, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Italy competed. Race director Johan Demasure (Belgium), assisted for the Blitz and Rapid specialties by Elisa Galletti (Italy).
The Ukrainian teams were the masters (Yurii Bobkov, Artem Ivanov, Iurii Anikeev for the men’s open team and Viktoriya Motrichko and Olga Baltazhy for the women), who dominated, winning 5 out of 6 European titles; they didn’t win only in the women’s “Classic” timed tournament where the Polish players (Natalia Sadowska and Arleta Kosobudzka) prevailed. The Mayor of Follonica, Andrea Benini, took part in the awards ceremony, with the President of Italian Draughts Federation and European Draughts Confederation, Carlo Bordini, the FID Vice President Claudio Ciampi and the FID Tuscany Delegate Giuliana Tenucci who oversaw the organization, supported by the FID secretariat.
